EVER MORE DEPRESSING?

Is there nothing good left in humanity? That is what this book seems to cry. The characters are... massively screwed up. Ms. Froelich... this should've been on the do not read list

Right, posting. I started reading a Better Angel, by Chris Ardian and so far... It's depressing. The very first story that I read, right out of the box, dealt with a disembodied suicide victim in a coma... that's the FIRST STORY. I'm already anticipating much pain from this book. Why do all best sellers seem to be depressing. Can some one tell me that? I'd really like to know.
